Brocks were established approximately two years ago by a group of volunteers at Brockholes Junior and Infant School. During the school holidays the club is opened up to children from other areas of the Holme Valley. It is funded entirely through fees and its last Ofsted inspection came back with a 'good' rating. The group successfully applied for a community grant earlier this year to pay for materials for their successful 'Grow and learn' project. Julie Lindley, scheme manager, said: "We wanted to give the children the opportunity to see how food grows and have the opportunity to eat what they've produced. "We've grown a range of fruit and vegetables including tomatoes, brussel sprouts, sweetcorn, cherries and strawberries. The children love to come in to the centre and see how their plants have grown - they love to eat everything too!" Julie was full of praise for the money the group received from KNH Excel, saying, "without the grant we would not have been able to get the initiative off the ground."
