The card enables qualifying council tenants and leaseholders to save money on goods and services at businesses across Kirklees.

Now, the scheme will also include exclusive offers from Huddersfield Town.
Launched in 2007, the discount card won the prestigious ‘most innovative project’ award from the National Federation of ALMOS in the same year.

Since then, more than 260 local businesses have joined the scheme, which was the first of its kind in the country to be developed in-house by KNH staff and tenants’ representatives working with business owners to develop a “local card for local people.”

Everyone who qualifies for the card receives a brochure listing all the businesses and discounts, which will now include ‘Buy One Get One Free’ offers on selected match day tickets and free printing on newly bought shirts from Huddersfield Town.

The club is also sponsoring other elements of KNH Excel, including its schools citizenship project, KNH Kids.

Huddersfield Town’s Director of Business Development, Sean Jarvis, said: “This is a fantastic relationship that is a slight departure from our usual commercial deals.

“Essentially, it is Huddersfield Town giving something of value back to the community, particularly the ticket deal which we hope will give people that have not been down to see us yet an opportunity to do so.

“We are also confident that from a commercial perspective we will be able to attract some of the businesses already involved in the scheme to become involved at the Club.”

KNH Chief Executive, Simon Rogers, said: “I’m very pleased that Huddersfield Town have teamed up with KNH Excel.

“The club is making a very generous contribution to our discount card scheme, but they’re also supporting us in our wider mission, which is to help create successful communities in Kirklees.

“It’s a fantastic partnership for all involved, but especially for our tenants and leaseholders who will benefit from the new offers.”

Town supporter and Huddersfield MP Barry Sheerman is also a keen supporter of the discount card and the ideas behind it. He said: “Now, more than ever, it’s vital that the public and private sectors work together to support local economies.

“The KNH discount card is a terrific example of this kind of partnership working and it’s a scheme that could well benefit other regions.”
