Most of us welcome the warmer weather, but when it’s too hot for too long, it's not just uncomfortable; there can be health risks too.

Stay cool in the hot weather

The very young, the elderly, pregnant women and the seriously ill are the groups who are particularly at risk of health problems when the weather is very hot.

Please keep an eye on vulnerable neighbours - if someone feels unwell, get them somewhere cool to rest and give them plenty of fluids to drink.

If symptoms such as breathlessness, chest pain, confusion, weakness, dizziness or cramps get worse or don’t go away, seek medical help.

Follow the links on the right for some useful information about how to stay cool.

IMPORTANT: if you live in a flat, please do not wedge open your front door. Your door is designed to keep you safe in the event of fire and will not work if it is open.
