Release Date: 30-Oct-2012
Tenants and residents from the Windybank area came together this week to celebrate their newly refurbished community centre and get a taste of all the activities that will be on offer.
The centre has been modernized by Kirklees Council and Kirklees Neighbourhood Housing, which manages the estate, with the local tenants and residents association playing a key role in overseeing the refurbishment. The Spen Valley area committee also contributed funds for new furniture and equipment.
Residents and KNH housing officers at the open day
The day featured a number of activities such as arts and crafts, zumba, and special sessions for young people. A number of organisations including KNH, Citizens Advice, Job Centre, Kirklees College and the police were also on hand to give help and advice, as well as get feedback from residents about local issues.
As well as celebrating the centre’s new look, the aim of the day was also to showcase the wide range of activities that the community centre can offer local residents and organisations.
Robert Scott is KNH’s Neighbourhood Operations Manager for the area. He said: “the centre is at the heart of the Windybank community and the refurbishments mean it’ll be able to attract even more people to take part in a wider range of activities.”
