Our repairs and maintenance service is celebrating the results of its latest NHBC audit, which recognised its excellent health and safety performance over the past year with its third gold award in three years.
Kirklees Building Services, which has recently merged with KNH, scored 97% in the audit. The high score recognises the council’s investment in the service and its commitment to maintaining the strictest safety standards and rigorous safety management systems at its construction sites and depots across the district.
Our Building Services colleagues with their award
The NHBC scheme is designed to test the effectiveness of health and safety systems and benchmark them against industry standards. It demonstrates an organisation’s responsible attitude to staff and provides reassurance that there are appropriate risk management strategies in place.
The recent audit was a detailed inspection of health and safety management systems and operational practices at Building Services’ main depot in Huddersfield as well as several sites around Kirklees, where they work closely with colleagues in other parts of the company to ensure that staff and customers’ health and safety are paramount.
According to Phil Moulson, NHBC Health And Safety Advisor, “Scoring 97% in such a rigorous audit demonstrates Building Services commitment to maintaining an excellent health and safety record. Their policies and procedures are ‘user-friendly’ and they have excellent systems that take into account a full range of health and wellbeing issues, not just physical safety. Equally important, they demonstrate that they’re continually seeking to improve –this is something all organisations should be doing.”
KNH Chief Executive, Liz Cook, says: “the latest audit results recognize the council and KNH’s commitment to the health and safety of our staff and of the residents in the areas where work. Creating and maintaining safe working environments is of the utmost importance to us so we’ll be acting on the recommendations in the audit and making sure we continue to maintain the highest health and safety standards on all our projects.”
