More than two dozen children from Cowlersley were joined by KNH, the TRA, police and the Highways Super Bee mascot for some speed checks.

And the youngsters had a successful day, catching a number of drivers doing between 37 and 40mph in the 30mph zone.

The law breakers were given warnings by police.

The day was organised by Sabrina Hussain as part of KNH's week of events for youngsters on the Cowlersley estate.

The children also designed a banner warning motorists not to speed in their estate, which has now been installed in the community centre.

Earlier in the week they learned about road and cycle safety and were visited by the Kirklees Street Bikes project.

They also did a litter pick, collecting some 14 bags of rubbish from around the estate, and learned about the damage dropping rubbish can do the environment.
