Around 230 tenants and residents attended the event at the Cedar Court Hotel in Huddersfield, where they enjoyed a festive feast and were entertained by vocalist and comedian, Craig Harper, who recently appeared on Britain’s Got Talent. Santa and his elves also managed to find time for a visit and distributed gifts to everyone

For volunteer Tricia Woodhead, being part of an event which was entirely focused on people enjoying themselves and meeting other people was a wonderful opportunity. She said, “One of the ladies on my table wanted to dance, so I took her to the dance floor. She told me it had been a very long time since she had danced. That made me feel like I had made a real difference to that lady. Everyone I spoke to had a fantastic time and at the end of the event people were happy.”

According to Karina Sykes, KNH’s older people’s activities coordinator, the aim of the event was to bring different groups together to share in a festive celebration afternoon of fun, laughter.

She said, “Events like these play a really important role in bringing people together, helping them make new friends and making a real difference to how they feel.”
