Along with their families and staff from the centre and the Plant it, Grow it, Eat it Project, the youngsters helped plant fruit, vegetables and an apple tree at the centre, which has been chosen to be one of several Plant it, Grow it, Eat it sites in north Kirklees.

As part of the project, a greenhouse and new raised beds have been installed, which the pre-school will use for outdoor learning and messy play with the children throughout the year.

Once the fruit and vegetables are grown, there will be another community event to harvest the produce as well as cook and eat sessions so that people can learn what they can make with them all. Vegetable boxes with recipe cards will also be given out to families who have taken part in the project.

Plant it, Grow it, Eat it is a Lottery-funded project which aims to give people in north Kirklees the opportunity to grow their own fruit and vegetables, improving health and wellbeing and bringing communities together in the process.
