The winner, Eric (Curly) Senior’s sunflower was a whopping 8’ 4½”. His was closely followed by Beryl Croft’s at 8’ 2½”.. And in joint third place were Barbara Richardson and scheme coordinator Melanie Goodall, with their 7’ 11½”. sunflower.

Curly said his success was due to “a secret combination recipe.”

He was awarded his prize - the Joe Waring Sunflower Challenge cup – during the grange’s regular coffee morning last week.

Also last week was the Denham Court annual summer fayre.

The sunny weather meant that residents and visitors could enjoy the beautiful garden while browsing the stalls and taking part in a raffle and tombola.

All together, they raised over £200, which will go towards the residents’ social fund.

Thanks to everyone who helped make the event such a success.
