Fieldhead jobs fair

Release Date: 07-Jun-2011
FOR anyone looking for a job, wondering where to go next in their career or worried about changes to the benefits system, help is at hand.
Kirklees Community Association is hosting Build Your Future – an event offering careers, training and benefits advice – on Thursday June 16, from 3-7pm.

The event, in Fieldhead Community Centre, Lowood Lane, Birstall, is being supported by partner agencies including Kirklees Council and Kirklees Neighbourhood Housing (KNH) as part of the regeneration scheme at Fieldhead Estate.

Job Centre Plus, Kirklees and Calderdale Careers Service and companies including Ocado, Pizza Hut and Bramalls Construction will be there to tell potential employees about available jobs, what skills or experience candidates require and how to apply.

Information packs with other local employment opportunities will also be given out.

KNH’s Tenants Into Work Outreach Team will be giving advice and information including changes to the benefits system.

New criteria for claiming will mean lots of people having to go back to work as they will no longer be eligible for benefits.

A private room will be available on the day for anyone wishing to discuss personal information.

There will also be information about education and training from Kirklees College, financial advice from Castle Minster Credit Union and information on setting up a business from West Yorkshire Homeworking Unit and Business Link.

Cool2Care will also offer information on how carers can get respite time so they are able to pursue employment or training – and advise anyone interested in caring as a career.

Peter Rock, chairman of KCA, said: “This is an ideal opportunity for people to get free advice to help them build their futures – whether they are seeking jobs or training or just need help with their benefits or care.

“We hope that it will particularly benefit the residents of Fieldhead Estate as regeneration is about so much more than building houses, we want to help build the community as well.”

There is no charge for admission and free refreshments will be provided.

Everyone who attends will be entered into a prize draw with the chance to win a £50 high street shopping voucher.
