Community representatives from across Kirklees celebrated successfully completing a leadership course this week.
The community leadership course is run by Kirklees Neighbourhood Housing (KNH), as part of its mission to develop and support successful communities in the estates it manages.
Paricipants in the recent community leadership course
The five day course is designed to equip people with the skills they need to take a more active role in their communities, such as setting up a tenants and residents association, sitting on a steering group, or running a youth club. The skills are also transferable to the job market.
Chris Jenkinson, one of those who took part in the course, said: “the course is very comprehensive. It looks at ideas of leadership but also puts them into practice by looking at real life situations.
“I’m involved in a number of groups, including the Dewsbury Moor lottery and allotment groups. The course has given me the expertise and confidence to play an active role in these groups and really make a difference to my community.”
• KNH offers a number of different courses for anyone living on a KNH estate aimed at developing community leadership skills. Anyone interested can contact Philip Hardstone on 01484 221223.
