The event, organized by Kirklees Neighbourhood Housing (KNH) was held at Denham Court in Batley. The aim of the day was to encourage the older residents to do something active, while also raising money for charity.

More than 30 people from across the area competed in the nine-hole competition. Many had not played golf before but soon got into the swing of it. A cream tea finished off the day, and the event raised £100 for Help for Heroes.

Winifred Diamond from Oxford Grange said: “I’ve had a great day. I’ve made some new friends and was thrilled to come third in the competition.”

Carly Webster, KNH’s activities coordinator, said: “it was great to see everyone having a go. Activities like this are a really important way of encouraging our older tenants to get active, which is good for their physical and mental wellbeing.

“We’re planning a number of other events throughout the summer to celebrate the Olympics, and I hope tenants and residents of all ages will get involved.”
